Background

This project will see the removal and relocation of the old portable Bullarto Station House and construction of a new replica of the original Head House. Accessible amenities, in accordance with the Disability Discrimination Act, will be added to the building and the precinct will be enhanced with gardens and fencing at the south-eastern end of the platform.

This forms a part of the broader aspirations for the Daylesford Spa Country Railway (DSCR) that aims to expand their unique tourism service. DSCR currently operates a 9km rail excursion using restored vintage carriages and engines through the picturesque Wombat State Forest on weekends between Daylesford and Bullarto. With a reconstructed Head House, the Bullarto Station will have a more appropriate and welcoming venue to receive passengers, host small events and cater for visitors.

Construction Update - June 2023

Good progress has been made in recent weeks with the installation of the roof. The short roofing sheets and fixings are true to the heritage style of the building.

Window frames and doors have begun to arrive onsite, albeit slower than expected due to labour issues in the manufacturing process. Installation of the weatherboards to the underside of the widows may be bought forward to maintain site progress.

Internal works to render the chimneys and install slate hearths will commence in the coming weeks.

Construction Update - March 2023

The station building reconstruction is continuing, with chimneys now complete and roof trusses installed. The roof and wall cladding will be added next. The timber windows and doors are being manufactured with particular attention paid to achieving the same timber profile details as the original windows and doors.

Construction Update - September 2022

Following the installation of screw pile foundations and in-ground services, the sub-floor framing on the Bullarto Station building is taking shape. Next up is wall and roof framing.
